Year Twelve

The schemes of work intend to cover all that is required for the three modules ‘Methods’, ‘Mechanics 1’ and ‘Pure 1’ in this first year.  ‘Methods’ will be split between two teachers and will be completed before the end of the Michaelmas term.  The course should be complete by the end of the Lent term, in order to allow plenty of time for preparation and revision for the external examinations in June.           TOP

Year Thirteen

The students will cover ‘Statistics 1’ in the first term, with a view to sitting the examination in January.  ‘Pure 2’ will be taught over the first two terms by the other teacher, while ‘Pure 3’ will be split between the two teachers.  This leaves plenty of time for revision and preparation for the external A2 exams in June.

Each student receives a series of dates at the beginning of each term, detailing coursework deadlines, examination and test dates and an indication as to the rate at which the specifications will be worked through.  This is one method used in order to encourage the students to organise and take responsibility for their own work.

The aim of these two years is not only to draw the best out of each student in terms of a final grade, but also to develop mathematicians who enjoy the subject and have the ability to question and think for themselves.

A student guide to the Sixth Form Mathematics courses can be found here.     TOP

Further Maths

The students cover ‘Pure 6’ (Matrices) in the first year with one teacher, and ‘Discrete 1’ and ‘Mechanics 2’ with the second teacher.  In the following year, one teacher covers ‘Discrete 2’ and ‘Pure 5’(Differential Equations) while the other teaches ‘Pure 4’ (Complex Numbers).
