ICT
IN MATHEMATICS
ICT
is used extensively by the mathematics department
throughout the school. Year
seven use mathematics programs such as SMILE
or DLK on a weekly/fortnightly basis, as
appropriate. These
packages introduce and develop mathematical
concepts through a variety of challenges
or games. DLK
is used throughout key stage three and four.
The
department has recently invested in the AUTOGRAPH
package, which has proved very popular and
accessible at both GCSE and A level. It
is a powerful tool when studying graphical
methods and statistics, but is also useful
in all sorts of other areas of mathematics:
from calculus to transformations.
We
have also invested in a laptop and projector
in order to be able to demonstrate some concepts
in the classroom in the most powerful way.
Spreadsheets
are used throughout the school and are particularly
useful when studying statistics.
Graphical
calculators are a necessity in the sixth
form and there is an opportunity to purchase
them through the school at a discount price. Students are taught how to use them in the context of Numerical
Methods in year 12, but their uses are wide-ranging.
