The
vast majority of year 11 pupils at BCS stay on into
the Sixth Form. They choose to do so. At the same
time, a number of pupils, boys and girls from other
schools, elect at 16 to transfer and enter the Sixth
Form here. The School offers its Sixth Formers:
an
excellent academic record
a
wide choice of subjects
a
gradual shift to more independent learning
freedom
within a framework
a
partnership of student, School and parents
a
small and friendly community
opportunities
of many kinds outside the classroom
guidance
on the path to university and a career
Abbey House
Much though the Sixth
Form is part of the School as a whole, indeed its
most important sub-set, the Sixth Form at BCS is
given a distinct identity and a measure of separateness
through Abbey House: a centre for the Sixth only,
yet part of the School campus. A refurbished but
still mellow and character-full building, it contains
(on four floors) the office of the Head of the Sixth
Form (who is by location and disposition available
to any member of the Lower or Upper Sixth on any
matter), cloakrooms, two common rooms, two quiet
rooms, and a general purpose room. There is also
access to the school computer network. Abbey House
is a home within a home; a place where Sixth Formers
can be themselves. Next
