The variety of subjects on offer can be seen by looking at the list on the left. Time and care is spent in ensuring that each student takes subjects which they like and will succeed in, as well as looking forward to Higher Education and possible careers. Many GCSE subjects may be studied further to AS and A2, while new subjects such as Psychology and History of Art are introduced from time to time according to demand. The subjects on offer are also reviewed each year.

Normally students will take four AS subjects in Year 12, continuing with three taken to full A Level in Year 13. For some students it may however be more appropriate to study fewer subjects while, occasionally, a student may wish to continue with four, or even five, to A2 level.

There are four formal assessment points in a sixth form career when a regular review of overall progress is made in writing with discussion between student, tutor and possibly parents  The purpose of these is to ensure that each student is on target for appropriate grades at A-level, that action may be taken in plenty of time should things seem to be going wrong and that, above all, there is continual monitoring of each  student's work throughout the duration of the course. We emphasize that each student's learning is his or her own responsibility.

During the week, approximately 10 periods will be non-taught and available for private study. We do not dictate where this is to be undertaken, but available within Abbey House are the Common Rooms and Quiet Rooms, (one of which is set aside for those wishing to work in complete silence). Further away but in School, there is the School Library and just around the corner is Bristol Central Library.

Naturally time will be spent in or out of School on more social matters, as indeed it should be, but in order to be comfortably near the weekly target of at least 15 hours work outside the classroom - and still leave time for other interests and extra-curricular pursuits - it is important to start making good use of those 10 or so periods straight away.
