Choristers

During
his three or four years of service, beginning at age ten, a
Chorister will give the choir considerable commitment in time
and effort, much of it outside normal school hours. In term
time, Choristers practice before and after school each day,
singing Evensong five nights weekly and twice on Sunday.
Bristol
offers its Choristers complete academic education within
sight and sound of the Cathedral Church of the Holy and Undivided
Trinity.
When voices
change, boys continue their formal education up to University
entrance at Bristol Cathedral School where active music making
goes hand in hand with the pursuit of academic excellence. |

The
role of the boy chorister daily singing in Cathedrals and
College chapels provides a tangible link between the past
and future of sacred music. The rhythm of this contribution
is constantly renewed as boys voices change and their places
are taken in the choir by other young musicians.
Successive
generations of boys have stirred the hearts of Cathedral
congregations and more recently, brought a wider enjoyment
through the medium of radio and television.
The choristers
of Bristol Cathedral Choir are an integral part of this tradition
which The Choral Foundation is helping to preserve for current
and future generations.
Careful
consideration is given to the Choristers. Staff are told
when they are busy due to rehearsal or concert commitments
and so will not make unreasonable demands of them. This is
not to say that academic studies are neglected! The boys
also take a full part in all other aspects of the school.
CD's are
available which feature excerpts from concerts performed
over the years. |
