Headmaster Mr Kevin Riley said: “Music is one
of Bristol Cathedral School’s great strengths,
and Will and Charlie are splendid examples of that.
I wish them the best of luck for the final.”
Bristol Cathedral’s Master of Choristers Mr
Mark Lee also congratulated them on their success in
getting so far in the competition: “This is a
great honour and it is a tremendous tribute to their
hard work and talent that they have done so well.”
Will and Charlie have been selected from over 200
entries from cathedrals and churches across the country.
Four boys and four girls will compete in the final.
Will’s programme for the big night includes
the beautiful Benedictus from Haydn’s
Little Organ Mass and the hymn, All Creatures of
our God and King.
He will perform in front a panel of judges, including
Malcolm Archer (Organist and Master of Choristers,
St Paul 's Cathedral) and Ken Burton (Artistic Director
and Conductor of The London Adventist Chorale). There
will also be a performance from special guests, The
Opera Babes. The event will be hosted by Howard Goodall.
The winners, a boy and a girl, will each receive
a trophy and a prize of £500.
In addition, their choirs will receive a BBC Chorister’s award of £1000.
The winners will also get the chance to appear on Radio 2's Good Morning Sunday
and Sunday Half Hour, Radio 4's Daily Service, as well as a TV appearance on
BBC One's Songs Of Praise.
