The
Art Department is housed in two light and airy rooms
within the Fortune Theatre building. The location
of the school within Bristol allows the Department
to utilise a rich variety of external resources, including
the Cathedral, the harbour, the City Art Gallery and
the Arnolfini which are all close to the school. Life-drawing
classes take place on a weekly basis for lower and
upper sixth students and all classes take advantage
of the surrounding area for drawing and painting outside.
Painting
and sculpture projects are encouraged in a wide variety
of material, including; oil, acrylic and pastel,
clay, plaster and metal. Engraving, lino-cut,
colography and photo-silk screen printing form an important
part of the Art Department's output. The Department
currently has one computer of its own and makes wide
use of the School's excellent ICT provision.
The
Art Department offers the AQA Board GCSE Fine Art course
and AQA A/S and A2 courses. The Department also
delivers half of the AQA History of Art A/S and A2
courses.
Further
Education Links
The
Art Department has good ties with local colleges and
universities with regular contact between staff at
the college and students. This assists students
who wish to go on to the Foundation course to make
an informed decision on which place to take up. The
Art Department has been very successful in securing
the first choice course for its students.
Educational
Visits
The
Art Department runs trips to local and national collections
throughout the school year.
