History of Art is a new and exciting venture by Bristol
Cathedral School . Not only is it an interesting and
rewarding subject to study in its own right, it also
makes an ideal combination to go with other AS levels
we offer, in particular History, Art and Classical
Civilisation. History of Art is not a practical art
subject, so no artistic skills are required. It is,
however, a subject based on reading and assessed by
examination (and Personal Study in the A level year),
requiring similar skills to those of the History course.
Consequently it is included in the Faculty of Classics
and Humanities. History of Art is taught primarily
in Room 43a. The subject is well resourced, with a
good selection of pictures on disc as well as slides,
and a growing library of reference books. The proximity
of the substantial Art collection in the Central Library
is an asset.
History of Art is taught at AS and A-level, and follows
the AQA specification. The course is broken down as
follows:
AS: Unit 1 Ways of Seeing
AS:Unit 2
Western Art, from c.500 BC to c.1600 AD
AS:Unit 3
Western Art, from c.1800 AD to c. 2000 AD
A2: Unit 4

choice.

A2: Unit 6
