Year 9 topics

The topics cover a wide range of biological issues. The work covers fundamental principles that should give firm foundations for the GCSE course.

The topics are:

Environment and Feeding Relationships

Inheritance and Selection

Plants and Photosynthesis

Plants for Food

Ecological Relationships

Extended investigations will be carried out to improve the GCSE coursework skills of Planning, Obtaining Data, Analysis and Evaluation. These will include studies of the effect of light intensity on photosynthesis and the effect of exercise on heart rate.

GCSE Biology

Biology is studied as part of the OCR GCSE Science Dual Award (1983) examinations

Coursework represents 20% of the total assessment.

There is an ecology field course in the Isle of Wight which offers the opportunity for some extended investigations in a range of habitats.
