Years 7, 8 and 9 - Lower School

The skills of the students are expanded through experience in a wide variety of Art and Design materials.   Homework is set on a weekly basis and is intended to develop the students' drawing and research skills.

Year 10 and 11 - Middle School

The work is thematic in approach and is based on the projects set in the exam. Students work in oil, acrylic, pastel, oil-pastel and watercolour at some point in the course.   There is an emphasis on drawing from direct observation and students keep journals which include all of their drawings and research.   Homework is set regularly.   3-D work is encouraged, usually papier maché, plaster and metal.

Year 12 - Senior School

There are 3 units in the A/S course; 2 practical coursework units and 1 examined unit of 5 hours' duration.   The coursework is broadly thematic in line with the AQA specification.   The exam is taken in the 3 rd term.

Year 13 - Senior School

There are 3 units in the A2; 1 practical unit, 1 personal study based on an artist or art movement, mainly written of about 3,000 words and including illustrations.   The final unit is the examined unit of 15 hours duration.
